This 100% Viognier is made in the true old world style. These grapes are grown on tee-pees (as they do in Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu), barrel fermented, and stirred on the lees once a week while aging for 11 months in new French oak barrels. This Viognier tastes fresh and vibrant with lees-derived complexity. It has nice balance, soft oak, and a creamy mouth-feel that opens up to white stone fruit nuances.
The inspiration for this wine came about while drinking a bottle of Guigal's Le Doriane from Condrieu in May 2016. Sarah took a sip and her entire face changed. She said it was the best white wine she has ever had. So many white wines these days are too 'crisp' and acidic with an unpleasant mouthfeel (Sarah's words...). This wine was none of that. It was smooth and oaky, and it felt like velvet in the mouth. She said, "This is the perfect white wine for me. I need to make a wine like this." So they set off on the next vintage to make a Viognier worthy of the comparison.
We believe we achieved this feat and are excited about this new edition to the Serrano family. This wine is best enjoyed slightly below room temperature, not too chilled or cold.
