2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

2013 cabernet sauvignon

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was our very first release, and with it started our Serrano story! This Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 13% Petit Verdot  and 8% Cabernet Franc to add complexity, unique flavors, and round out the tannins.

When the idea for the Cab first came about, I was hesitant because at the time, I didn't like too many Cabs. I was still acquiring my taste for wine and the big tannic Cabs were not to my taste. Brice and I had a goal for this Cab: It needed to be something that I could drink (approachable) while retaining big fruit, tannin, and complexity. We wanted the perfect balance; something experienced wine drinkers would appreciate, and new wine drinkers would enjoy.

Blending this wine took a few tries, but eventually we were pleased with the additions of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. The Cab Franc provided a little spice that Brice wanted in the wine, and the Petit Verdot added some smooth caramel that I was looking for.

This Cabernet won a gold medal at the Central Coast Wine Competition. It placed 2nd in the most-entered category, beating out over 40 other Cabernets in the area.
